Öz

Linguistic codes, in the process of explaining and conceptualizing outer world, rank first in an individual’s or societies’ uttering and delivering opinions/feelings mechanisms. In this respect, studies conducted on language do not only reveal the inherent features of language, but also provide an opportunity to examine in-depth the individual or social schemes that shape linguistic uses. In this study, various semantic qualities transferred to context by the hafif and ağır nodes, which are considered as antonym, are discussed. The main motivation of the study is to reveal the tendencies to encode the binary opposition, which is an important regulation mechanism in human cognition and perception. With this orientation, the subject of the research was examined within the scope of different semantic values such as positivity, negativity, neutrality, which were transferred to the system through the Turkish National Corpus v3 (TUD v3) concordance option in terms of forming a semantic discourse prosody. In the study, it was found that positivity, negativity, neutrality coding tendencies of hafif and ağır nodes differ according to the meaning level of the words and the contrast can continue in a limited number of meaning levels; it was concluded that the semantic values transferred to the context can differ according to the semantic categories of the words with association, and that the values in question can differ depending on the connotational fields of the nodes and the connotational fields of the word with which they are associated.
