Factors Affecting Exports According to the Modes of Transportation: An Application on Turkey

Öz

The aim of this study is to investigate the factors affecting Turkey's export according to the transportation modes. For this purpose, the factors that are likely to affect Turkey's exports by using the road, rail, sea, and air transport modes have been determined. In the study, in which monthly data for the period 2000:01-2019:12 were used, export data according to transportation modes (roadway, railway, seaway, and airway) were the dependent variable, Turkey's industrial production index, EU countries' industrial production index, real exchange rate index and Brent oil price as independent variables. As a result of FMOLS level shift and FMOLS regime shift analyses made by considering structural breaks, it was determined that Turkey's industrial production index is the most important variable affecting exports according to all modes of transportation. After Turkey's industrial production index, the real exchange rate index, according to the model created and the methods used; It has been determined that it is one of the other important variables that affect Turkey's exports according to the modes of transportation. As a result, it has been determined that the policies aimed at increasing the production capacity will affect the export of Turkey according to the transportation modes rather than the competitive exchange rate policies.

Taşıma Şekillerine Göre İhracatı Etkileyen Faktörler: Türkiye Üzerine Bir Uygulama

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye’nin taşıma şekillerine göre ihracatını etkileyen faktörleri araştırmaktır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda; Türkiye’de kara yolu, demir yolu, deniz yolu ve hava yolu taşıma şekilleri kullanılarak gerçekleştirilen ihracat hacmini etkilemesi muhtemel faktörler belirlenmiştir. 2000:01-2019:12 dönemine ait aylık verilerin kullanıldığı çalışmada, taşıma şekillerine göre (kara yolu, demir yolu, deniz yolu ve hava yolu) ihracat verileri bağımlı değişken, Türkiye’nin sanayi üretim endeksi, AB ülkelerinin sanayi üretim endeksi, reel döviz kur endeksi ve Brent petrol fiyatı ise bağımsız değişkenler olarak ele alınmıştır. Yapısal kırılmaları dikkate alan FMOLS düzey değişimi ve FMOLS rejim değişimi analizleri sonucunda, tüm taşıma şekillerine göre ihracatı etkileyen en önemli değişkenin Türkiye’nin sanayi üretim endeksi olduğu belirlenmiştir. Sanayi üretim endeksinin ardından reel döviz kur endeksinin, oluşturulan model ve kullanılan yöntemlere göre; Türkiye’nin taşıma şekillerine göre ihracatını etkileyen diğer önemli değişkenlerden biri olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak Türkiye’nin taşıma şekillerine göre ihracatını, rekabetçi kur politikalarından daha çok üretim kapasitesini arttırmaya yönelik politikaların etkileyeceği tespit edilmiştir.
